Description

The three-masted sailing ship built in 1909, served in the Polish Merchant Navy from the 1930s to the 1980s as a training ship for the students at the Maritime School in Gdynia (now: Gdynia Maritime University). At present, the museum-ship, mooring at the Pomorskie Quay in Gdynia, is one of the most important treasures of the Polish maritime heritage from the previous century. The impressive sailing ship silhouette is a landmark in the urban landscape in Gdynia, whereas the entrance to the main deck and inside the ship allows people to learn the living and working conditions of the Polish sailors and officers up close. In the historic space, such as the commander’s room, mess, hospital, wheelhouse or engine room, there are preserved artefacts documenting the ship’s and crews’ history, and a special place is arranged as the famous writer’s cabin, dedicated to Deep Sea Captain Karol Olgierd Borchardt.
